FNL programs are implemented across California, serving elementary, middle, and high school-age youth. FNL is driven by positive youth-adult partnerships that create essential and powerful local actions that enhance and improve communities. FNL programs create opportunities for youth to make meaningful contributions and improve their neighborhoods, schools, and communities through outreach, education, service, and advocacy. As a result, youth partners in FNL experience the necessary support and opportunities to develop the relationships, skills, competencies, knowledge, and connections that empower them to thrive.
The Youth Development Survey (YDS) report provides valuable information about youth experiences in the FNL programs for high school and middle school age participants, and the impact these programs have on alcohol, tobacco, and other drug (ATOD) prevention efforts. An independent evaluator analyzes the statewide data and reports findings annually.
